Dry Cupping

Dry Cupping

How does it work?
Dry cupping works by creating negative pressure (suction) on the skin using special cups. This suction has several physiological effects that support healing and recovery:

– Lifts the Skin and Fascia

– The cups gently pull the skin and underlying fascia (connective tissue) away from the muscles.

– This lift helps release tension in tight muscles and fascia, improving mobility and flexibility.

– Improves Blood Flow and Circulation

– Suction draws blood to the treated area, bringing oxygen and nutrients needed for tissue repair.

– Enhanced circulation helps flush out metabolic waste, reducing soreness and inflammation.

– Stimulates the Nervous System

– The pressure and release of suction can activate nerve endings, which may help reduce pain signals.

– This effect can create a natural analgesic (pain-relieving) response, similar to a gentle massage.

– Promotes Lymphatic Drainage

– By lifting the tissue, cupping encourages movement of lymphatic fluid, which helps remove toxins and reduce swelling.

Supports Relaxation and Healing

– The combination of tissue release, increased circulation, and nervous system stimulation promotes relaxation, reducing muscle tension and stress.

– This creates an optimal environment for the body’s natural healing processes.

– Dry cupping is non-invasive and does not break the skin. The marks left by the cups are simply caused by the temporary increased blood flow and usually fade within a few days.
What are the benefits?
Dry cupping is particularly effective for supporting recovery from muscle and joint injuries. Its targeted benefits include:

– Speeds Muscle Recovery

– Increases blood flow to injured tissues, delivering oxygen and nutrients needed for repair.

– Helps flush out lactic acid and metabolic waste, reducing post-injury soreness.

– Reduces Pain from Acute or Chronic Injuries

– Can relieve pain from muscle strains, ligament sprains, or overuse injuries.

– Stimulates the body’s natural pain-relief response, reducing reliance on medication.

– Decreases Swelling and Inflammation

– Encourages lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce swelling around injured joints or muscles.

– Supports a faster recovery environment for soft tissue injuries.

– Improves Mobility and Flexibility in Injured Areas

– Releases tension in tight muscles and fascia around the injury.

– Helps restore range of motion, making rehabilitation exercises more effective.

– Supports Rehabilitation Programs

– Complements physiotherapy, exercise, and sport taping.

– Prepares muscles and joints for safe movement during rehab.

– Prevents Compensatory Injuries

– By improving circulation and tissue flexibility, dry cupping reduces the risk of secondary injuries caused by overcompensating for the original injury.
Does it hurt?
No, there shouldn’t be any pain. However, you may feel a slight discomfort as you would in a during a massage treatment.
How long is a cupping session
When using cupping within our treatments they are only applied for a duration of 5-20minutes.
How many sessions will I need?
This may vary depending on if you are recovering from an injury, whether it is acute or chronic conditions or used for stretching purposes to improve range of movement. It could range from 3-8 treatments from initial consultation or used for monthly maintenance sessions.
